Alyce Jean Pettigrew passed away on the afternoon of December 26, 2014, with family by her side. Alyce Jean was born in Chicago on September 5, 1927, the first of three daughters of Alyce and Leslie Burke. She was preceded in death by her parents; her loving husband, Jack Pettigrew; her son, Dennis; and her sisters, Patricia Colloton and Barbara Kerwin. Alyce Jean attended St. Catherine of Siena High School, Clark College, and the Pestalozzi School of Early Education. Jack and Alyce Jean married in Chicago in 1948. Alyce Jean and Jack retired to Corrales in 1987. They were longtime members of San Ysidro Parish where she taught religious education. Alyce Jean was a docent with the museum at Casa San Ysidro, and a volunteer with the Baby Amigo program. Alyce Jean and Jack loved to entertain; their home was a gracious gathering place full of love, laughter, friendship and family. Alyce Jean was a beautiful mother, wonderful friend, and a shining example for her children and grandchildren. She is survived by her children, Maribeth (Thom) Volek, Linda Bodick, John Jr. (Kathy Romain), Robert (Sharon), and Ann (Tom) Brockwell; eight grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. The family wishes to thank the amazing Haven Care staff who at every turn treated Alyce Jean with love, respect and dignity. Special thanks to Dr. Ortega and the support staff at Hospice de la Luz for their kind care. The family will receive friends on Sunday, January 4, 2015, beginning at 4:00 p.m. at FRENCH - Wyoming. A Rosary will follow at 5:00 p.m. Mass will be celebrated Monday, January 5, 2015, 10:00 a.m., at Risen Savior Catholic Community, 7701 Wyoming Blvd. NE. Interment will follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery.
