Alvin Eugene Sullivan

d. May 30, 2017

Alvin Eugene Sullivan, age 73, beloved husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather and friend was called to his eternal resting place on Tuesday, May 30, 2017. Alvin was born in Tuscaloosa, Alabama to Cora (Crowder) Windsor and Alvie Sullivan, in 1943. He is survived by his wife Cleo Sullivan; four children; Dawn and husband Larry Byrnes, Shawn and wife Lorrie Sullivan, Michelle Boyer, Suni and husband Matthew Cruvant; brothers Robert Sullivan and wife Vicki, and James Hardin and wife Lisa.  Alvin served forty-one years and nine months in the United States Army as a commissioned officer and aviator. Alvin enjoyed a love of nature, the outdoors, and growing orchids. He also enjoyed geocaching, golf, traveling and scuba diving. He was a devoted family man with a great sense of humor. He touched the lives of many people and his friends and family will miss hearing his adventurous stories.

Here is a description of his life through his writing:

I have passed through the eye of a rainbow and looked at the clouds from both sides.

I have seen the sun rise over the Chesapeake and watched it set over the Grand Canyon.

I have crawled through mud and felt cool rain on my face.  I have crossed the desert and felt the hot sting of wind-blown sand on my skin.

I have known the joy of birth and the sadness of death.  I have held my children and rocked them to sleep.  I have watched them grow through joy and pain and seen the pride in their eyes at the birth of children of their own.

I have known the love of many people through their gentle caresses and fierce hugs and I am grateful for them all.

I have sung a lullaby and danced a gig.  I have stopped to smell the flowers and I have burned my candle at both ends and found pleasure in both.

I have known God and I have known the Devil and I believe in them both for if there is one there is the other.
