Alvin grew up in Baltimore, MD; Martinsville, VA and Miami Bech, FL. He graduated from Whitefield Senior High School - Miami Beach, FL in 1948. Maryon grew up in Richmond, VA and graduated from Thomas Jefferson High School in 1953.
Alvin loved everything with a motor from planes, motorcycles and as he would say, "fast cars". He operated a plane mechanical shop in Hialeah, FL followed by a career in retail in Baltimore, MD for Carpet Fair. He enjoyed meeting people and assisting with their home decor, improvements. He retired and returned to Florida with his wife, Maryon. Maryon worked occasionally as a bookkeeper-administrative associate for a furniture store and later for a modeling school in Baltimore, MD.
Life is more than schools and work though. This story is about the people who met on a blind date in Miami Beach, FL the spring of 1957. They met and fell in love - true love - eloping three weeks later not telling any of the family. Maryon returned to Richmond as they planned their wedding from afar.
August 11, 1957 the two wedded in Richmond, VA with a splendorous ceremony and reception. They lived in Miami Beach following having two children then moved to Baltimore, MD; retired in both Hollywood Beach, FL and Albuquerque, NM.
Their's is a romance story. For years, Maryon suffered from Alzheimer's. Alvin cared for her every need. October 16th things changed. Al was diagnosed with congested heart failure later with a complication related to kidney failure. The children cared for their mother during his hospital stay. However, the change of Al not being home become very difficult for Maryon and for several days she was in respite care at a local hospital. During this time, Al was discharged to home with Hospice Care. A couple of days later, Maryon was also discharged to home with Hospice Care for advanced stages of Alzheimer's. They laid side by side as they once stood side by side when taking their vows for one another 66 years ago - "in health and in illness". Alvin passed away peacefully at home Nov. 5. A couple of days later, Maryon closed her eyes and a couple more days fell into her long sleep uniting with her husband on Nov. 10.
In love in life and eternal love forever.
