Alvin O. Moran

Long time Albuquerque businessman and resident, Alvin O. Moran passed on April 19th, 2022, joining his son "Sonny" and wife "Margie".

Al was born January 1, 1932, to Hayley and Fred Moran in Antlers, Oklahoma- a tiny town just outside of Broken Bow. He was the second child in a family of eight children. Growing up in the southwest and joining the Navy at 17 to "get off the farm". He later returned to Roswell after the Navy- meeting the love of his life, Marjorie Mae Redford, whom he married in 1956 and celebrated 53 years of marriage before her passing. The pair had six children together and made the move to Albuquerque in 1964. Al got his start in the sign industry at TESCO SIGNS in Roswell in 1957. Al worked for Western Neon and Neon Products in Albuquerque before starting his own company in 1968, Moran Signs as well as a second business, New Mexico Sign Supply shortly after. In 1989 Al partnered with Sandy Moran and longtime friend Danny Jones to create SignArt of New Mexico, Inc.

Al was a dedicated business man and friend, continuing to share his advice and knowledge even after his decision to retire to care for his beloved wife Margie. He had a joke or witty remark for all who walked through his door and is remembered for the unexpected laughs he brought to all who knew him. Stubborn and strong-willed, he was proof that with commitment and consistency nothing is out of reach. An inspiring model of a loving and faithful husband- Al fulfilled his promise to Margie to care for her at home, which he did until her passing in 2009. A loving father, a loyal friend, and a mentor to many. He enjoyed crosswords, fishing, listening to country music, and traveling with friends and family. Al was loved and respected by all, his loss is felt deeply by his family and community.

Al was preceded in death by his beautiful wife of 53 years, Marjorie Moran; his parents, Hayley and Fred Moran; his eldest son, Fred "Sonny" Moran; his sisters, Elizabeth Moran, Charlotte Spencer, Sue Boggs; and his brothers, Oscar and Larry Moran.  Al is survived by his two brothers, Sam Moran (wife Tiny) and Marvin Moran (wife Georgette); his children, Elizabeth Nicholson, Nancy Moran, Larry "Sandy" Moran (wife Rita Moran), Susan Knight and Charlotte Moran-Manning (husband James Manning); seven grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
