Alphonse "Al" Rakoczy, 91, a resident of Albuquerque since 1957, passed away on Friday, October 31, 2014. He is survived by his children, Cecilia A. Marks and husband, Bob, Eloise A. Bennett, Frank A. Rakoczy and wife, Val, Gerard A. Rakoczy and wife, Cindy, Harriette A. Smith, Jennifer A. Rakoczy; 15 grandchildren; and 20 great-grandchildren. Al was preceded in death by his wife of 68 years, Betty E. Rakoczy; and daughter, Dolores O. Drexler. Al was born in Cleveland, OH. Mr. Rakoczy served in the US Army during WWII. In 1957, he, Betty and their family moved to Albuquerque. After 29 years of service, Al retired from Sandia National Laboratories. He and Betty were longtime members of Queen of Heaven Parish. After retiring, Mr. Rakoczy worked as a Teacher's Aide. Al loved reading, painting, gardening, and wood-working. He and Betty traveled the world after retirement. A rosary will be recited on Monday, November 17 at 6:00 p.m. at FRENCH - Lomas. Mass will be celebrated, Tuesday, November 18 at 11:00 a.m. at Queen of Heaven Parish, 5311 Phoenix Ave. NE. Interment will follow at Santa Fe National Cemetery with Military Honors.
