Alice Maestas

Alice D. Maestas, wife of the late Samuel E. Maestas, went to her heavenly home peacefully surrounded by her family on Wednesday, March 10, 2021 at the age of 93. Alice was born and raised in Chacon to Elias and Agapita Leyba-Duran. She attended Allison James and Menaul School. She interrupted her studies to marry the love of her life, Samuel Eufracio. She worked hard throughout her life alongside her husband and held a position in the Mora County Treasure's Office for four years. In her free time, she loved going to church, gardening, cooking, and taking care of her children. As she came to her final days, her strength began to ebb, and she set her face to enter the loving care of the Lord. Alice was preceded in death by her eldest children, Mary Ann and Sammy; and Sammy's sons, Stanley and Andrew. She is survived by, Kathy and her husband, Jeff Scaggs of Rio Rancho, and Diane Sanchez and family of Espanola, Henry of Bernalillo, Mark of Rio Rancho, and Georgia Sanchez and family of La Mesilla; brothers, Elias Duran Jr. and, wife Virginia of Chacon, Floy Duran and wife, Gloria of Denver Co; sister-in-law, Helen Duran of Nebraska, and daughter-in-law, Florence Maestas of Albuquerque; several grandchildren; and many nephews and nieces.
