Alice Guzman

May 25, 1936 — February 7, 2023

Alice Guzman, beloved mother, grandmother, and sister, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, February 7, 2023. Alice was born in 1936 in North Dakota to Clarence and Helen.

Alice grew up in Bowbells and had many fond memories of canoeing in Canada with the girl scouts and playing a variety of instruments in marching band. She completed her bachelor's degree and teaching certificate in home economics and went on to graduate school.

While attending graduate school at Colorado State University in Fort Collins, she met her husband, Jose Guzman. They were married June 1960. During the early years of their marriage, Alice stayed in Albuquerque raising their first two daughters Amy and Mona while Jose continued to travel to Fort Collins to complete his degree. The couple had two more daughters Laura and Carmen. After her children entered school, Alice commenced employment with the APS school cafeteria. She quickly worked her way up to a roaming manager position working at many different schools.

Alice's and Jose's love of the outdoors lead to much family time spent on their boat, "4 Sisters", water skiing, swimming, camping, and deep-sea fishing. She cherished family time at their place in Elephant Butte Lake State Park. She enjoyed many holidays in Mexico and later spent quite a few winters there.

Alice wholeheartedly supported her daughters. She attended many school sporting events, always cheering loudly in the stands. She was the Desert Rose 4-H club leader where she taught the members to sew, cook and garden. Later, when her daughters joined the girls group New Life of America, Alice volunteered for all events. She cared about all the girls in the group and loved helping.

Creativity was a strong thread through Alice's life. She enjoyed painting, sewing, and many handcrafts and hobbies.

She was preceded in death by many of her family and friends, including her husband, Jose, and grandson, Adam. She is survived by her daughters, Amy, Mona, Laura, and Carmen; brothers, Clarence and Grant; grandsons, Alan, Lukas, Nathaniel, Isaiah, Roman, Axel and Levi; and granddaughter, Audrey.

Friends are invited to attend a Mass on Thursday, March 2, 2023, 9:00 a.m., at Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary Catholic Church, 9502 4th St NW. She will be laid to rest with Jose at Santa Fe National Cemetery.
