Alfonso passed away peacefully at home on Thursday, September 23, 2021. Alfonso graduated from Menaul high school in 1974. He worked with the city of Albuquerque until he retired. His greatest passion in life was playing basketball. He played morning, day, and night. If there was a ball, there was a game. And if there wasn't a game, there was Al dribbling and shooting baskets into all hours of the night.
Al is survived by his mother, Carmen Gallegos; father-in-law, Joe A. Montoya (Lydia); wife, Natalia; ex-wife, Barbra; sisters, Carla Gallegos and Kathy Gallegos; sons, Alfonso (Chrystelle) and Diego; his two beautiful grand-daughters, Izabella and Sasha Gallegos; brothers-in-law, Joe Montoya, Jr. and Thomas Montoya; sister-in-law, Katherine Corder (Phillip); many aunts, uncles, nieces, and nephews; his most beloved dog, Alvin; and his friend to the end, Juan Saavedra.
Alfonso will truly be missed. A Graveside Service will be held Tuesday, October 26, 2021, 9:45 a.m., at Santa Fe National Cemetery, 501 N. Guadalupe St., Santa Fe, NM.
