It is with great sorrow that we announce the passing of Alex Montanez, beloved husband, father, grandfather, uncle and friend. Alex was born on November 5, 1934 in Roswell, New Mexico to Louis and Alexandra Montanez. He passed away on Tuesday, May 4, 2021 in Albuquerque, New Mexico.

Alex served in the U.S. Army as a sharpshooter. He married the love of his life, Mary, on August 8, 1963 in Carlsbad, New Mexico. Soon after they began their family. Alex loved his family, golf, the Raiders, Dodgers and Lakers. He seemed to know people everywhere he went. Alex was notorious for referring to himself as "The Big Red One". He was often heard saying "There's no substitution for conditioning". Alex was well known for his stories, funny jokes, antics, and comments.

Those left to carry on his Alex's memory are his son, Alex (Marty) Montanez and his wife Diane Bauer-Montanez; grandsons, Alex Montanez, Nicholas Montanez and his wife Jasmine and Shane Montanez; granddaughter, Jessica Montanez; great granddaughters, Baylee Montanez and Penelope Montanez; and sisters, Eva Taylor and Patricia Facio. Additional survivors include nieces, nephews and friends. Alex is preceded in death by his wife, Mary Montanez; son, Fernando Montanez; and sisters, Elvira Veilleux, Esther Charette, Emma Fugarino and Helen Montanez.

A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, May 29, 2021, 10:00 a.m. at St. Peter's Catholic Church in Roswell, New Mexico.
