Alex W. Coull, age 86, a long time resident of Las Vegas, NM and Albuquerque, went to be with the Lord on Saturday, March 12, 2016 surrounded by his family. He is survived by his wife of 16 years, Patricia Coull; children, Anthony Coull and wife, Carmen of Rio Rancho, Curtis Connor of Albuquerque, Chantel Campos and Carmella Montoya of Santa Fe, and Patricia Gonzales of Albuquerque; grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and many friends. Alex was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Juanita "Jane" Brito Coull. He was born in 1929 in Norristown, PA and went into the United States Army during WW II where he proudly served. After his discharge he completed high school and moved to Las Vegas, NM where he attended New Mexico Highlands University on the GI Bill. Alex obtained his Bachelors and Masters Degrees in Education. It was also there that he met and married his beautiful Juanita "Jane". Alex has been a teacher since 1952 in Santa Rosa and Las Vegas where he retired as Assistant Superintendent in 1982. He coached for 15 years, 13 at Las Vegas City Schools and was inducted into the New Mexico Athletics Hall of Fame. Alex served as Exalted Ruler of the Las Vegas Lodge No. 408 from 1962-63, serving in all Chairs in the lodge. He then went on into the New Mexico Elks' Association working his way up to President in 1967-68. Alex was also a member of the Las Vegas United Methodist Church, the Las Vegas Fire Department, the Rotary Club, the Las Vegas Officials Association, American Legion Post No. 24 Las Vegas, and many others. His dedication to his community and family was well known. At the time of his death Alex was a recognized top salesperson for Bankers Advertising Co., even working from his hospital bed. He was one of the most generous,caring and unselfish persons one could know. Alex was a devoted husband and beloved father and papo and will be deeply missed by all who knew him. Cremation has taken place and a Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, March 19, 2016 at 1:00 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church of Las Vegas, NM. Interment will take place at Santa Fe National Cemetery at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Alex's name to the charity of your choice.
