Albert Alphonse Noyer

October 30, 1927 — November 21, 2022

Born at Courtetelle, Switzerland, on 30 October 1927, Albert Noyer was the fourth of nine children born to Alphonse and Marguerite Schindelholz. At an early age he was fostered to Albert and Eugenie Nussbaum-Noyer, who subsequently moved to Detroit, MI, where he grew up. After completing Army service, 1945- 47, he majored in commercial art at Wayne University. Working for several years as a mechanical illustrator in Detroit art studios, he then entered a 30- year career with the Detroit Public Schools, teaching art at the vocational high school level and earning master’s degrees in education and humanities. Over a period of 20 years, Noyer was yearbook artist and art history instructor at St. Mary’s College, Orchard Lake, MI, where he was made an Honorary Alumnus in 1956. After retiring in 1986, he moved to New Mexico with his wife, Jennifer, exhibited paintings and woodcut prints in local galleries, and served for 3.5 years as a Vista Volunteer. Noyer began a writing career that included ten historical novels and contemporary novels set in Michigan and New Mexico. He is a member of Holy Child Parish, Tijeras, Docent Emeritus with The Albuquerque Museum, and was actively involved with the New Mexico Watercolor Society, New Mexico Veterans Art, SouthWest Writers and Croak and Dagger, the Albuquerque chapters of Sisters in Crime.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Mercedes; and by his brother Rev. Georges Schindelholz. He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Jennifer; a son, Chris Kassel; and daughter, Margaret Clare; as well as stepchildren, Ted Pethick, Robert Pethick, Sarah Martyniak; and ten grandchildren. Surviving siblings in Switzerland are Suzi Sumi, Aurelie Laubscher, Gerard Schindelholz, Marie Terese Vialatte and Gabrielle Schindelholz.

A Memorial Service will be held at 11 am December 9, 2022, at San Antonito Catholic Church (12493 Highway North 14, Sandia Park, NM, 87047) with burial and reception following. In lieu of flowers, donations should be sent to the sender’s favorite charity.
