Albert C. Lujan

Albert C. Lujan, age 71, made his journey home to our Lord and Savior on Thursday, September 3, 2020.

Born in Albuquerque, NM, and raised in the heart of the South Valley. The eldest son of Castulo and Florinda Lujan. In May of 1981, he graduated from the University of New Mexico, with a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering and a minor in Mathematics.

He was a very successful Senior Project Engineer for 40+ years attributed to his critical thinking and problem-solving skills. His passions included gardening, listening to Rancheras and Classical music, attending movies at the theater, and being a yo-yo enthusiast. When Albert was 14, he won the NM State Championship in the Duncan Spin Top competition and earned the prestigious opportunity to compete at the national level in Disneyland. Albert was also a member of the Rio Grande Wrestling Team in HS. Later in life, his membership activism evolved to the proud status of gold member at Sam’s Club and Costco.

Albert truly cherished and loved his family. He enjoyed family vacations and taking the “scenic route.” He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, son, uncle, brother, loyal friend, and coach. Albert touched many lives with his generosity and kindness. He always put others' needs before his own to ensure no one ever went without.

He was strong in his convictions. Albert was very active in the Catholic Church as a member of St. Edwin’s Marriage Enrichment Team and served as Parish Council President. In the community, he was best known as ‘Big Al’ or ‘Coach Lujan’, where he dedicated his spare time to Rio Grande Junior Wrestling Club for 15 years, serving as head coach and president.

Albert’s memory will live on and be cherished by his adoring wife of 45 years, Eileen “Lingo”; his five treasured children, Stephen (fiancé Angel), Thumper (wife, Gisi), Christina, Alex, and Rebecca; and six beloved grandchildren, Brianna, Joey, Joviannah, Stephen Jr., Lucas, and Elijah. He was preceded in death by his parents, Castulo and Florinda; two brothers, Henry and Phillip Lujan. Also survived by his siblings, Sammy, Steven, Bertha, Jeanette and Josephine; and numerous nieces and nephews.

A Viewing will be held at St. Edwin Catholic Church, on Friday, September 11, 2020, at 9:00 a.m., Rosary at 9:30 a.m., followed by Mass at 10:00 a.m. Burial will take place at Gate of Heaven, at 12:30 p.m. after Mass. Please note: church attendance is limited to 84 people max; and burial site attendance will be limited to immediate family, others will have to remain in vehicle. Flowers may be sent to FRENCH - Westside. Donations may also be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital in memory of Albert C. Lujan.
