Albert L. Grubesic died peacefully in Albuquerque, on October 28, 2018 with his family by his side. Born on April 3, 1928 in Dawson, New Mexico, he was the youngest of seven children.

After his father was injured in a coal mining accident, the family moved to Albuquerque. Albert attended Albuquerque High and was a four-sport letterman. He was an all-state football player and a member of the North-South all-star team He was the starting center fielder in college for three different Division 1 baseball teams; after using up every second of eligibility he returned to Albuquerque and received a degree from the University of New Mexico. He served in the United States Army during the Korean conflict. After graduation from UNM, he interviewed with Allen Stamm, a real estate developer in Santa Fe. According to Al, Mr. Stamm hired him based on his batting average. After working with Stamm for many years he opened a successful real estate brokerage in Santa Fe. He was very active in the community. He served as a city councilman, was an ardent supporter of youth athletics and a life-long Democrat. He was an avid fisherman, an accomplished chef, a voracious sports fan, a loving father and the world greatest grandfather.

He leaves behind his wife, Betty; three children, Christina Barnett (Bob Barnett), Trisha Arrighetti (Wes Arrighetti) and John Grubesic (Dana Grubesic); and four spoiled and thoroughly loved grandchildren: Kathryn Arrighetti and Jessica, Jack and Mason Grubesic.

He loved his life, treated it as an adventure and challenged everyone around him to be better. He enriched each person he met with his vigor, his humor, his intellectual curiosity, and his passion.

The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to Shawna Tillberg, Vanesa Mesic and all the doctors and staff who assisted with Albert's care. In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations be made to an appropriate charitable organization.

Papa enjoyed a thick filet mignon, Grgich wine, his dogs, anything Croatian, and a warm fire on a chilly evening. His was a life well lived.
