Lena, age 89, was born in Veguita, New Mexico on Saturday, September 2, 1933, and passed away on Friday, October 28, 2022, surrounded by family and loved ones due to complications from heart failure. She is survived by her children, Carol Castaneda and husband Robert, Charles and wife Yvonne, Adrian, Kathy Roybal and husband Tony, and Frank's partner John St. Pierre; ten grandchildren, Travis, Gabriela and husband Casey, Adrianna and husband Dennis, Ricardo and husband Austin, David, Giovana, Alejandra, Eli, Graciela, and Maximo; and three great-grandchildren, Colin, Shayla, and Zoe. She is also survived by her brother, Orlando Sanchez; brothers-in-law, Lucas Montoya and wife Dora, and Roger Montoya; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her loving husband of over 60 years, Florentino (known to many as Floren); sons, Richard and Frank; parents, Elfego and Rosalia Sanchez; brothers, Jose, Timoteo, Eutimio, Sarapio, Roberto; and sister, Angela.
Lena graduated from Belen High School in 1951. Lena worked at Sandia Base, ACF, and then went on to retire from Albuquerque Public Schools, where she was a kindergarten assistant for 18 years and impacted the lives and hearts of so many children and their families.
We invite you to help us celebrate the life of our wonderful mom, grandma, and great-grandma by attending a Rosary, that will be followed by a Funeral Mass on Tuesday, November 15, 2022, at 10:30 a.m. at Our Lady of Assumption Church, 811 Guaymas Pl NE, Albuquerque, NM. A reception will immediately follow at New Mexico Veteran’s Memorial at 1100 Louisiana Blvd SE. Albuquerque, NM.
Interment will take place at Santa Fe National Cemetery on Thursday, November 17, 2022 at 10:00 a.m.
