Adelicia (Alice) Crespin Aguilar

Adelicia (Alice) Crespin Aguilar, age 89, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her loving family on November 25, 2024. Alice was born on June 14, 1935, in Cuba, NM to Manuel Crespin and Erminia (Minnie) Segura Crespin. She was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother (Merma), great-grandmother, mother-in-law, sister-in-law, and auntie.

Alice grew up on a ranch a few miles east of Cuba in Naciemiento, NM. She was the oldest of 9 children. In the 6th grade she moved to Bernalillo, NM to attend school and care for her grandmother. She met Filimon Aguilar at a baseball game, and they were married in March 1953 in Bernalillo, NM. They were married for almost 70 years and together they had 4 children, 11 grandchildren, and 20 great-grandchildren.

Alice was a homemaker and became a Hair Stylist, working alongside her husband in their salon for many years. Her most beloved role was that of mother and grandmother. She was known to everyone as "Merma". As a grandmother she wanted to be called "Grandmama"; however, when her grandson Lorenzo was young, he could not say grandmama and began calling her Merma. It caught on and for 40 years, and forever more, she was known to her family and many more as Merma. She introduced herself as Merma and even her husband called her Merma.

Merma was the epitome of love. She loved unconditionally and made sure you knew it. She was always happy to see her family and would offer them food immediately after giving hugs when anyone walked in her home. She loved hosting her family for holidays and enjoyed having company, her home was always open to her loved ones. Merma loved having her grandchildren and great-grandchildren in her home; their laughter was one of her most favorite sounds. She often would keep them for extended stays, and they all have fond memories of her singing songs, telling stories, reading books, teaching them to make tortillas or "torties" as she called them. Merma never told her grand/great-grandchildren no, she either always said yes or would give a better option to what was being asked. She said yes to root beer floats, bedtime medicine (actually candy), dessert anytime, and would make anything you asked. She said yes to outings at the zoo, amusement parks, shopping, and rides on the rail runner just to ride. Merma had nicknames for each of her grandchildren, sometimes more than one. She had little sayings (Merma-isms) her family will always remember. She was so thoughtful and kind, always checking in with her family and friends to make sure everyone was ok. Merma's love was a one of a kind and will be so missed.

Alice was preceded in death by her parents, Manuel and Erminia; her husband, Filimon; her brother, Ted Crespin, and her granddaughter, Jacklynn.

Merma is survived by her 4 children, Ronald (Cristal), Lorrie (Tim), Cindi (Andy), and Karla (Larry); her 10 grandchildren: Nickole (Lawrence), Filimon (Ashley), Christina (Mike), Lorenzo (Nicki), Jason (Stanton), Mark (Lauren), Audra (Brian), Jessyka (Steven), Marissa, and Jarred (Shelly); and her 20 great-grandchildren: Isabella, Lauren, Marcos, Lilian, Aubriee, Knox, Elijah, Viviana, Sophia, Landen, Finley, Lorenzo, Ezra, Adam, Aliyah, Ezekiel, Wyatt, Sloane, Reyah, and Avery.
