Adela (Dodie) Gallegos Padilla, 94, passed away January 5, 2018 at her home surrounded by family. She was a wonderful mother, grandmother, great grandmother, aunt and friend.

Adela was preceded in death by her parents, Rosendo and Margaret Gallegos; her husband of 33 years Ernest Padilla; sister, Mary Wylie; brother, Rosendo Gallegos and grandson, Phillip Sisneros. She is survived by sons, Ernest Padilla and wife Kjersti, Donald Padilla and wife Gail, daughter, Elizabeth Manning and husband Scott; grandchildren, Cristina Himmel, Stephanie Padilla, Kristy Padilla, Monika Padilla, Stephen Sisneros and Sarah Sisneros; great granddaughters, Alice and Aurora; nephew, Stephen Mahony (who was like a son to her) and wife Ann, along with numerous relatives and friends.

Adela was born June 11, 1923 in Belen, NM. She graduated from UNM and became an elementary school teacher, working for APS for over 30 years. She married Ernest Padilla in 1946. He was the love of her life. They were married for 33 fun filled years before he passed away.

Adela liked to travel and enjoyed many trips. She liked to read, shop, spend time with her family, walk, hike and visit her cabin in the Jemez mountains. She was an active member of many organizations and clubs, caring greatly about her New Mexico community. She was very passionate about education and encouraged all her children and grandchildren to seek a higher education.

Adela was a very strong, caring person and will be greatly missed.

A Rosary will be held Monday, January 15, 2018 at 10:30 a.m. followed by a Mass at 11:00 a.m. at Church of Incarnation, 2309 Monterrey Road NE, Rio Rancho 87144. Inurnment will be held on Wednesday, January 17, 2018 at 2:15 p.m. at Santa Fe National Cemetery.
