On Tuesday, July 5, 2022, the life of a vibrant young woman tragically ended in Albuquerque, NM. Born in Chandler, AZ, on May 28, 2002, Aaliyah J. Vigil came to Albuquerque at an early age. Aaliyah is survived by her mother, Danielle (Tiffany) Vigil; sisters, Nevaeh Vigil, and Ella Vigil; and nephew, Angelo Vigil Whitman. Aaliyah's grandparents are Daniel Vigil of Taos, David, and Raquel Yergler of Albuquerque; as well as great-grandparent, Lavonne Yergler of Mesa, AZ. Aaliyah was preceded in death by great-grandparents, Veloy and Elena Vigil, Roberto and Estella Camargo, and Roy Yergler.
Aaliyah's brief, but full life reminds all who knew her of Edna St. Vincent Millay's famous stanza:
"My candle burns at both ends---It will not last the night; But ah, my foes, and oh, my friends ---It gives a lovely light."
Aaliyah's "lovely light" shone brightly with a spirited enthusiasm for gymnastics, art, photography, and choir as she explored life's options. Aaliyah's future plans were boundless and included completing a high school diploma, followed by college, travel to New York City and the bright lights of Las Vegas. Aaliyah, always a "go-getter" and hard worker, never lacked for a job (or two). Even as a child, Aaliyah dreamed of driving cars and was so proud of a new car, her first big purchase. Yet above all else, Aaliyah's loyalty to family members and friendships held first place in her heart.
And all who knew Aaliyah can say, "But oh my friends, Aaliyah's life gave a lovely light."
