Virginia (Ginnie) Lee Hastings Rhodes was born on May 7, 1928, in Wichita, KS, to Dorothy and Ray Curtis Hastings. She passed away in Albuquerque on July 27, 2018, at the age of 90.
She is survived by her daughters, Doris Rhodes and husband, Francis; Carol Jameson and husband, Terry; son-in-law, Delbert Rhodes; granddaughters, Heather Rhodes-Whitley (Stoney), April Rhodes-Maddox (Don), Nicole Rhodes (Mateo), and Sonia Stottlemyre (Steve); grandsons, Lee Rhodes, Matthew Seik, Jason Seik (Ceinwyn); great-grandchildren, Justin Rhodes, Victoria Garduno, Bella Garduno, Elowyn Seik, and Andrew Stottlemyre; sisters, Elmira Fillis and Mary Blumanhourst; brothers, Lauerence Hastings and wife, Aleta, and Paul Hastings; sisters-in-law, Maxine Hastings, Millie Hastings, and Dorothy Brightbill, and many nieces and nephews.
Virginia was preceded in death by her beloved daughter, Janet and infant daughter, Patricia; parents, Ray and Dorothy; siblings, Blanche, Curtis, Betty, John, Lois, Arvella, Bob, and Judy; and former husband, Virgil Rhodes.
Family was extremely important to Virginia and she provided childcare for all of her grandchildren when they were young. She enjoyed visiting with her brothers and sisters and large extended family. Virginia loved to do jigsaw puzzles and read which she continued to do until shortly before her passing. She was a member of the Beta Sigma Phi sorority and served as President.
She obtained a private license to fly small airplanes and, in 1960, joined her husband, Virgil, on a two-week trip flying a Cessna 210 across south America visiting Mexico, Costa Rica, Colombia, Ecuador, Peru, Bolivia, and Brazil.
The family would like to thank Virginia’s hospice nurse, Melissa, other hospice caregivers from Compassus and the nursing staff at Ladera Center for their Loving care of her in her final days. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to the Alzheimer’s Association, 9500 Montgomery Blvd NE, Albuquerque, NM 87111.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, August 2, 2018 from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at FRENCH – University. Services will be on Friday, August 3, 2018, 2:00 p.m., at Chester T. French Memorial Mausoleum Chapel, 924 Menaul Blvd. NE. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Park.
