Roderick Bernard Howard, 72, died Friday, November 18, 2016, in Albuquerque, NM. Rod was born July 27, 1944, in Dover, NH, to Elmer and Louise Howard. He joined the United States Air Force when he was 17-years-old and served four years of active duty at Amarillo Air Force Base.
Rod graduated from West Texas State University with a Bachelor's degree and Master's degree in Fine Arts. He taught art in the Vernon, Amarillo, Plainview, Big Spring, Stratford, Dalhart, Tucumcari and Albuquerque public school systems. He enjoyed painting in oil and watercolor and taught many private workshops.
Rod is preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Diana Hutchins; and his great-grandson, Reece Howard. He is survived by his son, Ron and wife Kari, and their children, Byron and Brooklyn of Amarillo; two other grandchildren, Ryan Howard of Abilene, and Roxanne Howard of Amarillo; one great-grandson, Connor Ray Howard of Amarillo and his ex-wife and friend, Carolyn Howard of Amarillo.
A Graveside Service will be held Friday, December 2, 2016 at 2:00 p.m. at Memory Gardens Cemetery, 14200 Interstate 27, Amarillo, Texas 79119.
