Robert Dean Mathes
April 21, 1936 — September 11, 2017
Robert Dean Mathes, 81, beloved father and grandfather passed away on September 11, 2017. He was born on April 21, 1936 in Pueblo, Colorado to Francis Hoover, later adopted by Wesley Mathes. He is survived by his daughters, Kelly Mathes and Amy Sanchez; granddaughters, Nicole Sanchez and Hannah Nigh; grandsons, Justin Sanchez and Rowan Nigh. He was preceded in death by his devoted wife of 55 years, Sue Toney Mathes; his daughter, Tracy Mathes; son, Grant David Mathes and son in-law, John Sanchez.
Robert was educated at the University of New Mexico and received a degree in Electrical Engineering. He served his country in the New Mexico Air National Guard. He was an avid member of the Elks Lodge, and the Early V8 Ford Club. He had a passion and talent for restoring classic cars. He enjoyed playing golf, traveling and loved animals, especially dogs.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, September 23, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. at FRENCH – Westside.
