Robert Lynn Bassett had a life that was destined to be an adventure from the moment he entered the world. There are many ways to describe him; beloved husband, proud father and grandfather, college football star, Vietnam Veteran, passionate businessman, karaoke king, painting enthusiast, fisherman, golfer, mid-life surfer, tall-tale-teller and mischievous practical joker. He had a twinkle in his steely blue eyes that when you saw it, you never knew what to expect.
Born May 22, 1944, Bob grew up in an Air Force Family living in different parts of the country and well as Europe. He graduated from North Central High School in Spokane, WA and went on to play football at the University of Idaho. After graduating, he was commissioned as an officer in the United States Army. He then served in Germany and Vietnam, where he was awarded a Bronze Star. After Vietnam, he began a successful career in business and merchandising.
Bob loved to make people smile, whether you were in line at the grocery store or sitting on his back patio. He had an abundance of adventures that he created with the love of his life, Donna. In 43 years, they enjoyed three children and were blessed with seven grandchildren. Together they lived in some of the most beautiful parts of the country; Washington, Hawaii, and Colorado just to name a few. It never got old for him to grab Donna’s hand just to dance with her in the kitchen and sing into her ear.
Bob is survived by Donna; children, Wendy Bassett (Steve), Jessica Johnson (Jason), Joshua Bassett (Emily); grandchildren, Aidan, Alex, Emma, Kenzie, Kadence, Macy and Phoenix; sister-in-law, Nancy Creighton; nieces and nephews, cousins, and 76 years of friends scattered throughout the world.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Bob’s honor to The Alzheimer’s Association.
