Richard B. Wilks, 85, of Corrales, NM and formerly of Phoenix AZ, was not a tall man, but as a man who knew how to love, he cast a long shadow. Richard went the way of all the earth on Tuesday, June 7, 2016.
He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Sandra; his sons and daughters-in-law Jonathan and Kim, and Matthew and Susan; his grandchildren Alexander, Kiyomi, Theodore, Emiko, Emily and Issa; and brother and sister-in-law Donald and Patricia.
Born in Newark, NJ, Richard joined the Navy after high school and served in the Korean War. After the war he went to Antioch College where he met Sandra, graduated from University of Chicago Law School, and moved to Arizona.
Richard was active in the Civil Rights movement, then the United Farmworkers' movement and finally served as house counsel for the Salt River Pima-Maricopa Indian Community. There was not a sliver of distance between his principals, words and actions; he practiced the law but served under Justice.
Graveside Service will be Monday, June 13, 2016 at 9:45 a.m. at Santa Fe National Cemetery Santa Fe, NM. Please visit our online guestbook for Richard at www.FrenchFunerals.com
