Richard Nicolas Hernandez

May 15, 1930 — October 4, 2021

Richard Nicolas Hernandez, 91, joined his wife, Christel, and sons Benjamin and Joseph, on October 4, 2021. Richard is survived by sons Richard, Thomas, Franklin, and Adam Hernandez. Richard had 7 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren. Richard had seven sisters and is survived by Mercy and Lucy.

Richard was born in Dawson, New Mexico and joined the U.S. Army at age 16.

He was stationed in Georgia, California, New Jersey, Louisiana, Korea, Japan, and Germany during his military career.

Richard and Christel met and were married in Berlin, Germany. After returning to the states and retiring from the military, the family moved from Fort Dix, NJ to Albuquerque, where Richard joined the civil service. He retired from the VA Hospital in 1991.

Richard was devoted to family and was described by all as being a loving and caring man. He was a member of the Our Lady of the Annunciation Catholic Church for 53 years.

Rosary will be recited on Thursday, November 18, 2021, 6:00pm at FRENCH - Lomas, 10500 Lomas Blvd NE. Mass will be celebrated Friday, November 19, 2021, 10:00am at Our Lady of the Annunciation Catholic Church, 2532 Vermont St NE in Albuquerque. Interment will follow at Santa Fe National Cemetery at 2:15pm on the same day.
