Mucio was born Tuesday, January 14, 1930 in Santa Rosa, NM. He graduated from Belen High School in 1948. Mucio pursued his education at Highlands University and received a B.A degree with majors in Biology and Physical Education. He then received an M.A. degree in School Administration from the University of New Mexico. After this he completed 36 credit hours in Guidance and Counseling.
In 1954 Mucio began his career as a physical education instructor (coach) and a counselor with Albuquerque Public Schools. In 1969 he was appointed Assistant to the President for Student Affairs at the University of Albuquerque. Mucio then continued his career in School Administration as Dean of Students at Highlands University.
In 1980 he accepted an active duty Tour with the New Mexico National Guard as Military Personnel Management Officer. Upon retiring from the National Guard after serving 35 years, he retired with the rank of Colonel and breveted to the honorary rank of Brigadier General.
Upon retiring from the National Guard, Mucio received a Presidential Appointment as Selective Service Director for the State of New Mexico. He served in this position for over 30 years.
Mucio was very active in the community and was Past Chairman and Director of various boards and Associations, including New Mexico Public Education Division, Veterans Affairs Program of the University of Albuquerque, NM., Health Education Coalition and the N.M. Guidance Association.
Mucio is survived by his wife, Tina Salazar Yslas; grandson, Gavin Koonze; brother- in -law, John Salazar and wife, Terri and many wonderful nephews and nieces.
He was an avid golfer and member of the Santa Fe Country Club and Four Hills Country Club. Mucio enjoyed golfing with family and friends.
A Mass will take place at 11:00 a.m. at Our Lady of the Assumption, 811 Guaymas Pl NE, with a graveside Service at 2:00 p.m. at Santa Fe National Cemetery on Thursday, June 1, 2023.
