Loving Daughter, Awesome Mother, Grandmother and Great Grandmother, born September 14, 1936 passed away peacefully at her home in Albuquerque, NM on Wednesday January 13, 2021 at the age of 84.
Preceded in death by Parents Louis and Ethel Hoppe, Aunt Frankie Waller, husband Wesley Kimbrel and grandson Michael Brooker.
Survived by Children Robert Rice, wife Jeanne, Michele Griffin, Dawn Sterk, husband Kevin, Donald Rice, Maurine Rice-Schroeder, husband Dennis.
Eight Grand Children, Nicholas Sterk, Eric Sterk, spouse Andrea, Tyler Rice, spouse Rachel, Timothy Ginevra, spouse Victoria, Stephanie Alvord, spouse Alex, Brian Griffin, William Walker and Casey Rice.
Five Great Grandchildren, Conner Liles, Mikaela Ginevra, Kayla Ginevra, Levi Griffin and Payten Alvord.
Lois was born and raised in Kansas City, Mo. During her teenage years while attending high school she was very active in the following curricular activities: Art Club, treasurer; FBLA; Pep club; Y-Teens, inter club officer, tri-city conference; Eulexia, treasure, song leader, NSPA; Echo Staff, feature editor; Eastonian Staff, ROTC editor; Quill & Scroll; ROTC; Marksmen and locker assistant.
She was also a member of Jobs Daughters and participated in many youth organization events.
As a young girl Lois would visit family members’ farms, she treasured her memories of time spent with her family, but had particular fond memories of the horses.
A member of the Enlisted Spouses Club, she modeled in fashions shows and participated in other fund raising events to support the organization.
Transferring to Albuquerque, NM in the late 70’s because of her selection as a Store Manager of Switzer’s women’s clothing store, she met her true love, second husband Wesley Kimbrel a plumber for Sandia Laboratory and they built a life in Tijeras, NM.
Lois was the owner of Kim’s fashions, a women’s ready to wear clothing store, after closing the store her and Dad retired in the city of Albuquerque, and traveled in their motor home for a number of years. Her special spot to visit was Branson, Mo.
Lois had a passion for crafting, sewing and quilting. Her works of various crafts were admired by her family, friends and others. She was an avid supporter of Project Linus and donated numerous handmade quilts to the organization.
One of Lois’ favorite pastimes was watching old Westerns. Saddle up Saturday!
Lois was also a lover of cats and was known to adopt a stray or (two) and become their friend and protector.
A celebration of life to be held at a later date.
