Larry L. Gardner, passed away at the age 75, on June 25, 2018. Larry served in the US Army as a Nuclear Weapons Specialist 5 Instructor at Sandia Base. Upon completion of his service, Larry worked on the Atlas ICBM Missiles at Andros Island. Larry also worked at Gulton Industries, GTE Lenkurt, Siemens Corporation, Martin Marietta Corporation as an Electronic Test Engineer. Larry retired from Alcatel in Plano, TX in 2002.
Larry was born on September 4, 1942 to his parents, Alice Marie Spier and Floyd Benson Gardner. He was primarily raised by his mother in Cheyenne, Wyoming.
Larry loved spending time with his friends, fishing, hunting and target shooting. To say that Larry enjoyed target shooting is an understatement; He followed the Rocking Chair Gun Club retirement plan: Shoot, Shoot and Shoot some more! Larry hated snakes so much that his dear friend Jerry purchased a snake sponsorship to the zoo and gave it to Larry as a gift. He was an expert in re-loading his own ammunition and enjoyed teaching others in electronics and anything to do with firearms, hunting and fishing.
Larry was preceded in death by his parents, Floyd Benson Gardner and Alice Marie Spier. He is survived by his daughter, Leslie Baillio whom he loved very much. During the last few months of his life he was cared for by his daughter Leslie at his home and was at peace with his approaching end of life. He would often say he had lived a long, happy and fulfilling life. He died peacefully in his sleep, and although we are sad he is no longer here with us, we are also thankful Larry was loved dearly by all that knew him.
Friends often commented that Larry was a larger-than-life kind of guy and a great friend, steadfast and true. He was self-taught, humble and willing to share information. Larry will be remembered as a kind, loving and generous man that loved his country, friends and family. He will be greatly missed.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that a donation be made to Salvation Army, www.salvationarmyalbuquerque.org/ways-to-give.
