Lieutenant Colonel Ken Sorensen, US Army, Ret'd, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend died Sunday, October 9, 2022, after a long, brave battle with kidney failure, bladder cancer, myelodysplastic syndrome, and diabetes. He is survived by his wife, Annette; daughters, Christy Albright, and Clarissa Sorensen-Unruh; daughter-in-law, Karen Sorensen-Unruh; and grandson, Jack. He was the last of his five brothers and two sisters to transition from the world as we know it.
Ken was an Army veteran who served hardship tours in Korea, Vietnam, and Turkey. As a career military man, he served primarily in Europe and the Southwest United States. He also served more than 20 years as a non-profit business manager, and as a real estate broker for more than 10 years. Ken made an impact wherever he served.
He chose hobbies like travel, amateur radio, golf, reading, crossword puzzles, and listening to music. He enjoyed many relationships, but he especially valued his family and friends.
His favorite poem, If, by Rudyard Kipling, served as a lifetime compass for Ken. A lover of hymns, "Spirit Song" and "How Great Thou Art" seemed especially meaningful in his last days. His generosity, kindness, steadfastness, compassion, and ability to maintain his personal boundaries amid life's ups and downs are a legacy for those who knew and loved him. He will be greatly missed.
A Memorial Service for Ken will be held on Friday, October 28, 2022, 3:00 p.m., at Sunset Memorial Park Cemetery, 924 Menaul Blvd NE. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation in his memory to a non-profit organization of your choice.
