John W. Scott III
After living with leukemia for several years, our beloved "Jack" died suddenly on Tuesday, April 27, 2021. He was born April 3, 1942, in Orange, NJ, to Dr. John W. Scott, Jr. and Gertrude Brodhead Scott. Jack grew up in Montclair, NJ, where he met his wife, Lynne Blanchette. Both graduated in 1960 from Immaculate Conception High School. Jack served three years in the United States 3rd Armored Division stationed in Germany where he was in the Honor Guard and played for the US Army football team. He and Lynne were married in 1965. Jack graduated from Seton Hall University in 1967 and was the head coach of the Seton Hall Club Football team.
After working several years in the financial services industry, he moved his family to Albuquerque to become the Agency Manager for Lincoln Financial. In 1977, he was promoted to Vice President/Director of Agencies which took him and his family to California and then Indiana. During their time spent in California, he and his wife were involved with Duckhorn Vineyards and enjoyed the benefits of part-ownership in a winery.
His love of New Mexico led him back to Albuquerque in 1981 where he founded Resources Financial, affiliated with Phoenix Home Life. He retired in 1999 and continued to work as an independent financial advisor. Jack and Lynne built a log home in Angel Fire, NM, which they enjoyed for 14 years with their family and friends.
Jack loved the outdoors and enjoyed hunting, fly fishing, shooting, and golf, as well as politics and the NY Giants. But his biggest love was his family. He leaves behind his wife of 54 years, and their four children and spouses: John and wife, Carolyn of Lucas, TX, Sharon of Albuquerque, Maureen and husband, Mark Nelson of Albuquerque, and Michael and wife, Elena of Wesley Chapel, FL; as well as eight grandchildren, Jack, Natalie and Ryan Scott, Megan Lake, Hayden and Ian Nelson, and Emma and Arianna Scott.
As the eldest of six, he will be greatly missed by his siblings and their families: Tom Scott of Chesapeake, VA, Mary Scott of West Orange, NJ, Martha Koscinski of Bozeman, MT, Betsy Scott of West Orange, NJ, and Bob Scott of Portland, PA. Although scattered around the country, they were always close to his heart.
Jack will be remembered as a strong, dependable, caring man who had a positive influence on the many lives he touched. A Memorial Service will be held on Wednesday, July 7, 2021, 2:00 p.m., at FRENCH - Westside. A Requiem Mass will be offered for Jack at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, July 8, 2021 at St. Thomas Aquinas Church, 1502 Sara Rd SE, Rio Rancho. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to The Leukemia Research Foundation.
