John ("Jack") Franklin McGill, 87, of Albuquerque passed away on Friday, September 9, 2016, in Phoenix, Arizona. Born in Bay City, Michigan, to George Franklin McGill and Dagmar Grace McGill, he grew up in Kansas, served in the US Army during the Korean War, then lived in Denver, Colorado, before moving to Albuquerque, where he lived most of his life. Jack earned a degree in architecture from Kansas State University, where he was a collegiate swimmer, and began his architectural career with Gulf Oil. Using his architectural talents he designed and built two of his Albuquerque homes and a cabin in Taos. He was the owner of Thunderhead Oil and Gas; which later became JF McGill Contracting Company. He enjoyed golf, tennis, and skiing; he loved family, enjoyed his friends and travel; was fascinated by technology; and was a dedicated Lobo basketball fan. He is survived by his loving wife of 38 years, Barbara; his sister, Dagmar McGill, of Philadelphia; his two daughters, Tracy McGill Bouvier and her husband Jerry of Flagstaff, Carrie McGill and her husband Mike Durkin of Albuquerque; his stepsons, Bryan Fox and his wife Debbie of Phoenix, and Bill Fox and Susan Fox of Albuquerque; and his four grandchildren, Tyler Sovereign, Jesse Bouvier, John Bouvier, and Gage Fox. Memorial services will be Tuesday, September 20, 2016, 11:00 a.m. at Sandia Presbyterian Church, 10704 Paseo Del Norte Blvd NE, Albuquerque, NM 87122, with burial to follow at Santa Fe National Cemetery.
