June 11, 1925 — July 24, 2018

Joanne R. Hogan, 93, an Albuquerque resident since 1958, passed away at home on July 24, 2018.

Joanne was born in Toledo, OH on June 11, 1925 to Leo J. and Hazel M. (Schwab) Pauken. She graduated from Mary Manse College in Toledo, OH with a degree in Elementary Education. She married Richard J. Ranahan on July 5, 1947 (who preceded her in death in July of 1950), together they had three children. She married Walter J. Hogan on October 20, 1951 (he preceded her in death in July of 2005), together they had five children. The family spent some time in Oak Park, IL, Arlington Heights, IL and Sioux City, IA before settling in Albuquerque.

Joanne enjoyed playing Bridge and Canasta with her older friends and loved playing board games, dominoes, and simple card games with her children and grandchildren. She loved a good joke, a short beer and any kind of gathering with friends and family, (Taco Tuesday with grandson Brian and son Richard). She was a strong supporter of the Catholic church and schools of Albuquerque, sending three children to Queen of Heaven; was a member of the Altar Society when Annunciation was built; taught CCD classes and sent five children to Annunciation. All eight graduated from St. Pius X High School. She also contributed support to her alma mater, Mary Manse College throughout her life.

She is survived by her children, Kathleen (Bill Russell), Mary Ellen (Richard Vergas), Richard, Jane (Pat McCreary), Daniel (Deedra Jarrell), Kevin (Janet Hawley), Mark, and Elizabeth (Steve Singhose); 11 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister, Leona Haas; brothers, Donald and Charles “Teed”. She was preceded in death by her brothers, Norman and Joe. She was a strong influence and wonderful example of strength to all her children and will be missed by all who knew her.
