Glenn Michael Dempsey

Glenn Michael Dempsey was born in Albuquerque, NM on 2/14/1941 and died at the age of 80 in his home in Corrales, NM on 3/13/21. He graduated from Highland High School in 1958, then went on to graduate from UNM with an undergraduate degree in 1963 and a Master's degree in 1968. He obtained his medical degree from the University of Colorado in 1968. While in Colorado he met Gerrie Dempsey, saying "it was love at first sight". They got married and moved to Embudo, New Mexico where he was a General Practitioner for 2 years. Sensing a calling for Behavioral Health, he completed a residency in Psychiatry at the University of Iowa, then established a private practice in Albuquerque in 1979. He gradually transitioned his practice into clinical research, and founded Albuquerque Neuroscience, Inc. He loved learning the stories of his patient's lives and will be remembered for his insightful clinical acumen, his dedicated bedside manner, and his contribution to research in treatments for central nervous system disorders. His experience is clinical research came full circle when Gerrie began taking an investigational medication for metastatic breast cancer, which has allowed her to become an "outlier" and gain more years of quality life.

He was an avid hunter, fisherman and outdoorsman. He was a voracious reader and spoke Spanish fluently. Although he had a reserved demeanor, he also had a dry and bawdy sense of humor that was appreciated by close family and friends. He enjoyed watching the Lobos play, and often had an extra ticket to invite a new friend to a game. His faith as a Presbyterian inspired him and shaped his moral character.

He is preceded in death by his parents Glenn "Jack" Arthur Dempsey and Helen Matilda Dempsey, and his grandson Micah Dempsey. He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Gerrie Dempsey (Corrales, NM), his sister Kathy (Belmont, MA), his 3 children Becky (Rio Rancho, NM), Matt and Mandy (Aurora, CO) and Brad and Leslie (Pueblo, CO); his 6 grandchildren, Grace, Noah, Ariel, Travis, Nolan, and Spencer; and his lifelong best friends.
