Epifanio "Eppie" Martinez

April 7, 1925 — January 1, 2017

Epifanio "Eppie" Martinez, 91, died at home of a brief illness in Albuquerque, New Mexico on New Year's Day, 2017 at 7:00 a.m.
Eppie was born April 7, 1925 in Arroyo Seco, New Mexico to Maximiano Martinez and Juanita Pacheco. He served in World War II until 1945, attaining the rank of Corporal in the 474 infantry regiment, 99th brigade. On 1952, he married Loucella Medina from Arroyo Hondo, New Mexico.
He lived in many places, including Pueblo, Colorado and Arroyo Seco, New Mexico, where he singularly built his first family house. He also lived in Santa Fe and singularly built two more homes for his family. Later, he moved to Albuquerque. Prior to the move, he worked for the New Mexico State Oil Conservation Commission as a computer program analyst manager until retiring in 1984.
Eppie was a devoted parishioner at St. Anne Catholic Church in Santa Fe for more than 40 years as well as at St. Joseph on the Rio Grande until his death. He was self-made and self-determined. From his education to his career and his incredible skill to use every kind of tool imaginable - tools that allowed him to create things of wood or metal, brick or mortar, mechanical or technical materials - he participated in this world as a man who was a great example to all.
Eppie will be especially remembered for his quiet demeanor, spirit and morality, as well as the tenaciousness and kindness that allowed him to achieve the utmost in respect.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Maximiano and Juanita; his sisters, Elisa, Soledad, Raquel, Viola and Elvira, and his brothers, Levinio, Jose and Roberto. He is survived by his brother, Palemon (Neoma); his children, Orlando, Louis, (Patricia), Gilbert (Nidia) and Nancy (Richard); his grandchildren, Monica (Joe), Daniel (Liz), Dion "Bambi," Shari, Nidia, Daniela and Christina (Justin); his great-grandchildren, Celeste, Juliette, Katalina, Ariana, Jaxon and Ella and a very close member of the Martinez family, Raul.
A Rosary will be held Monday, January 9, 2017 at 10:00 a.m., followed by a Mass at 11:00 a.m. at Santa Maria de la Paz Catholic Church, 11 College Avenue, Santa Fe, New Mexico, on corner of Richards Avenue and College Avenue. Burial will follow at 12:45 p.m. at Santa Fe National Cemetery, 501 N. Guadalupe Street. Relatives and friends are welcome at the service and the reception at the Santa Maria de la Paz Parish Hall immediately following the burial, from 1:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m.
We extend our appreciation and thanks to Raul Zea for helping us watch over Eppie as well as for his continued support to the family. Gracias to Veronica Martinez for your kindness caring and assistance to the entire Martinez Family. Our gratitude and recognition also go to the pallbearers, who are all nephews of Eppie: Derrick Archuleta, Matthew Lucero, Donald Garcia, Ray Martinez, Albert Martinez and Rick Martinez.
