Donald E. Brunton, age 85, passed away on January 21, 2017 at his home in Albuquerque. He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Lois A. (Fenn) Brunton.
Don was born May 31, 1931 in Topeka, KS to William Dean and Jeanette (Delfosse) Brunton. He graduated from Kansas University in 1952 and served in the U.S. Army from 1952-1954. Don was a Certified Public Accountant and had a career in various financial positions. He worked as an auditor for the Dept. of Defense for ten years. He worked as Controller for the Navajo Nation from 1965-1970. In 1970 he moved to Albuquerque to be Controller for Mountain States Financial Corp., which was the investment company for the financial holdings of noted homebuilder Dale Bellamah. He later became Controller at Moncor, Inc., a bank holding company. Finally he retired as Chief Financial Officer of the Maloof Companies and served on the board of directors of First National Bank of Albuquerque.
Don was predeceased by his parents and by brothers, Robert and Charles and sisters, Memorie, Beverly and Mikki Sue. He is survived by his children and their families, Dean and Jan Brunton, Carol and Phillip Blackshear, and Jeanette and Bob Poerio, all of Albuquerque. The family includes six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren, Tom, Rachel, Kyle, Liesl and Malcolm Brunton; Dannica, Kyle and Cash Hoskison; Don, Carina and Harrison Brunton; Will Blackshear and Joanna Furgal; Misha Poerio; and Callie Poerio. The extended family counts Scott, Paula and Evan Thomas; Aldis, Brian, Radley and Oliver Phillipbar; Jim, Karen, Kristin, David, Elizabeth and Audrey McElroy; Roxanna Mount; and Judith Hough.
A Memorial Service is planned for Friday, February 17, 2017 at 3:00 p.m. at St. Paul's United Methodist Church, 9500 Constitution NE.
