Daniel Stuart Harroun, Jr., was born February 17, 1939, to Daniel Stuart Harroun and Eleanor Flowers Harroun, and passed away on July 31, 2018 after a brief but courageous battle with cancer. He is survived by his beloved sons, Douglas (Chavonne) and Dennis, and their mother, Aleta Riggs-Harroun; his sister, Dorothy Harroun (Ron Holzman); cousin and close friend, Ed (Kay) Teer; his loving partner of 10 years, Dena Lucas; and a host of family and friends.
Stu grew up in Carlsbad, where he developed a love of building and fixing things, from old cars to radio equipment, and a lifelong interest in music and acoustics. He obtained an Electrical Engineering degree from the University of New Mexico, where he later taught courses in Acoustics. He was a member of Sigma Alpha Epsilon and cherished his time at UNM and his enduring friendships with his SAE brothers. He was an enthusiastic supporter of Lobo athletics and Popejoy Hall.
Stu was a true New Mexican Renaissance man, with wide ranging interests and endless curiosity about the world. He was an avid traveler who visited over 140 countries, with a desire to visit them all. He loved adventure and was an accomplished pilot, sailor, and scuba diver. He was proud of his career at Western Power Company, where he worked on projects throughout the Southwest and in Eastern Europe. A lifelong resident of Albuquerque, he was a builder and property developer, and a patron of the theater, symphony, and the arts and sciences. He was a wonderful host, and he designed his dream house with entertaining others in mind.
Most of all, Stu was a gentle and generous man, devoted to family and friends. He faced death with stoic acceptance, and never lost his sense of humor or his courage. He boarded his final flight at dawn on Tuesday, July 31st. May his travels now take him to places wonderful and unimaginable.
