Cecilia Duran, age 92, a lifelong resident of Las Vegas, NM, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Sunday, July 19, 2020. She passed away peacefully in her sleep in Rio Rancho, NM, where she resided for the past three years.
Cecilia was born on April 23, 1928, in Gascon, NM.
She was preceded in death by her husband, of 60 years, George Duran, from Mora/ Las Vegas; her parents, Pedro Vialpando from Gascon, NM; Antonia Ortega Vialpando from Delia, NM; her son, David Duran, of Las Vegas, NV; brothers, Roman and Ramon Vialpando; sister, Jessie Sanchez; sisters-in-law, Lucy Vialpando, and Bertha Vialpando; brothers-in-law, Luciano Sanchez and Melaquias Chavez. She is survived by her brother, Reymundo Vialpando and wife Tina from Denver, CO; sister, Carolyn Chavez from Oakland CA; her children, Raymond Duran, from Las Vegas, NM, Stella Saiz and husband, Manuel of Nashville, TN; Danny Duran and wife, Denise from Henderson, Nevada,
Rita Duran, from Las Vegas, NM; Joe Gene Duran and wife Kathy from Las Vegas, NM; her 10 grandchildren, Debbie Foster and husband Chris, Manny Saiz Jr., and wife Shannon, Gina Duran, Eric Duran, Raymond Joe Duran Jr., and partner Kim, Antoinette Duran; June Gallegos and husband Mark,
Roberta Duran, Bryanna Duran and fiancé Aaron Gallegos, and Kendra Duran.
She was blessed with 10 great-grandchildren and one great-great granddaughter, and also several nieces and nephews who ALL held a special place in her heart.
Cecilia was a woman of great faith. She would start her day by praying and reading the Word of God in her special Bible.
She attended Las Vegas Cornerstone Church under the Pastoral leadership of J. Mark Saiz, for 20 plus years.
She retired from the State of New Mexico after having served at the Behavioral Health Services Department, Food Services Division as Food Service Aide (and also as a personal care assistant in previous years). She was well-liked and respected by her coworkers.
She was a hardworking woman keeping the family home while she worked full-time. She made certain that her husband and her children, her grandchildren, and her great-grandchildren, whom she was influential in raising, were all well provided for.
Cecilia was known by her neighbors and friends for the delicious bread she baked from scratch. Her family enjoyed her cooking and especially her beans and red chili. She always had a place at the table for whoever came to visit. She was known for her compassion and gentle personality and there was always something to eat at Cecilia’s.
A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date at Las Vegas Cornerstone Church, 2207 7th St. Las Vegas, NM.
