Bernice Cordelia (Maldonado) Gutierrez

Bernice C. Gutierrez, 62, of Albuquerque, New Mexico, passed away on Monday, April 25th, 2022 surrounded by her loving family. Bernice was born to Nasario and Raquel Maldonado on Sunday, November 22nd, 1959, in Albuquerque. While she was busy raising her three daughters, Bernice worked for the State of New Mexico for over twenty years beginning at the New Mexico Museum of Natural History and moving on to and retiring from The National Hispanic Cultural Center. One of her biggest personal accomplishments was met before she retired, which was finishing her higher education with the completion of her Bachelor of Arts in Business Administration. Shortly after retiring, she began working at East San Jose Elementary School for the after school RGEC program and enjoyed her time working with the children, parents, and teachers. She was also a dedicated lifelong member of The San Jose Parish.  In her free time, she loved spending time outdoors and camping in the mountains, enjoyed her travels abroad, arts and crafts projects, and spending quality time with her family, especially her three granddaughters.

Bernice was preceded in death by her father, Nasario Maldonado; mother, Raquel Maldonado; sisters Joyce Delgado, Bertha Mora, and Charlotte Griego. She is survived by her three daughters, Monica Sanchez (husband Christopher), Stephanie Mejia (husband Joel), and Rachel Gutierrez; her three granddaughters, Liliana, Evelina, and Aubriana; siblings, Elvira Soto (husband Luis), Anabel Sanchez, Lorraine Marquez, Angela Marquez (husband Julian), Bettie Jean Garcia (husband Leroy), Nasario Maldonado Jr. (wife Susan), Merlinda Aragon (husband Nick), Ere Maldonado (wife Alberta), Mike Maldonado (wife Alice); and many beloved, nieces, nephews, godchildren, colleagues and friends.

A Service honoring the life of Bernice will be held on Monday, May 2, 2022. at San Jose Parish, 2401 Broadway Blvd. SE Albuquerque, NM 87102, with a visitation at 9:00 a.m., 10:30 a.m. Rosary and 11:00 a.m. Mass.
