Benjamin Soblick (1926-2020)
Born on Tuesday, May 11, 1926, Benjamin Soblick passed away on Friday, January 24, 2020. Ben is survived by his sons, Martin, Steven, and Leonard; as well as by six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. He is also survived by two brothers. Ben’s wife of over 50 years predeceased him as did a brother and sister. Ben was born in Brooklyn, New York, and graduated from the New York School of Printing. He joined the Army during World War II, and saw combat duty with the 99th Infantry Division. After the war, he worked as a printer with the Military’s Stars and Stripes Newspaper for the remainder of his time in the Army. For most of his time in New York, Ben worked as a printer at a commercial printing company. Ben married his sweetheart, Revenna in 1949, and together they enjoyed family, travel, and opera, until her passing in 2000. Ben and Revenna moved to Albuquerque in 1968. Ben worked as a printer for the Albuquerque Tribune until his retirement. For many years Ben was active in the International Typographical Union, often serving as the Local President, Chairman, and Secretary-Treasurer. He was a member of Chabad of New Mexico and the Chavurat Hamidbar (Fellowship of the Desert) in Albuquerque, where he remained active even into his older years. He loved music, especially opera, and also enjoyed his time with friends. Ben enjoyed intellectual discussions on religion and issues of the day. He will be greatly missed. A Graveside Service will be held on Tuesday, January 28, 2020 at 12:00 p.m. at Fairview Memorial Park.
