Agnes (Chavez) Hester

Ignacia "Agnes" Chavez Hester, 90, our beloved Mother and Grandmother passed away on November 2, 2022. Agnes was known as Nocky or Auntie Kaki to family and those she grew up with in Corrales. Agnes was born on March 15, 1932, at her grandmother's home on the corner of Griegos and Rio Grande. She is survived by daughter Bobbi Kay Nelson (Rob), grandson Mark Nelson, sister Martha Lucero (Amadeo), sister Rita Baldonado, and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. Agnes was preceded in death by her husband Bob Hester; and sisters Rose Silva, Laura Chavez, Nancy Lester, Isabel Wilder; and brothers Augustine Chavez, Justo Chavez, and Salomon Chavez.

Agnes lived a happy life filled with love, laughter, and gatherings of family and friends. In her Corrales years, Agnes could be found fishing, swimming, and causing "trouble" on the banks of the Rio Grande with her sisters and brothers. During her twenties and thirties, Agnes enjoyed dancing at the Sunset and the Caravan East, worked as a waitress at the Highway House, and befriended everyone who happened by, including future country music stars and sports heroes. Agnes married Bob Hester in 1963 and the following years were filled with trips to Fenton Lake, events at the Fez Club, the Elks Club, and serving as "room mother" for Bobbi Kay's class at Mark Twain Elementary. After Bob's death in 1977, Agnes formed a successful cleaning business. Her family was always eager to help and share laughs. By the 1980s, Agnes discovered a love of shopping, particularly with her niece Mary Lou who joined her on countless outings to Budaghers, Dillards, and even San Francisco. In the early 2000's, Agnes moved near Academy Hills Park and discovered a whole new community of friends, not only in her townhome complex but also at the park where she enjoyed walking, meeting dogs, and seeing the sun rise.

Family and friends are invited to a celebration of Agnes' life at 4:00pm on Monday, November 21, 2022, at FRENCH-Wyoming.
