Daniel Charles Growney passed away on Sunday, November 28, 2021, after showing great resilience in the face of a long illness. Dan was born in Amarillo, TX on June 1, 1963 and moved to Albuquerque, NM in 1966. As a child he was resolute in his plans to become a truck driver, insisting that this was the career in which one was most able to eat hamburgers for every meal. Life, however, had other plans and after graduating from New Mexico State University in 1987, Dan pursued a career in politics in Washington D.C. He worked for Secretary James Baker in the Treasury and State Departments under Reagan and H.W. Bush, respectively. While the professional details of this time are understandably limited, the photographic record allows us to be sure he looked incredibly suave in a suit and earpiece. In 1992, Dan returned to Albuquerque to help run the family business, Tom Growney Equipment, Inc. and moved to LA after selling the business in 2013. Dan is survived by his father, Thomas F. Growney; his brother, Thomas D. Growney; his sister-in-law, Leigh; nephew, Ryan; and niece, Caroline. Dan will be remembered as a storyteller. He will live on in our minds mid-story, beer in hand, regaling us with tales of the capricious antics of our cowboy ancestors. Their rugged independence and untempered self-reliance lived on in him as did their zest to explore new frontiers. We will remember Dan, eyes alight, exploring the rugged beauty of Australia, perched on ski lifts in the Rockies and lounging on Hawaiian beaches.
