Joann Barabe

Joann (Joni) Eve Marie (Armijo) Barabe' was born in 1946 and raised in the southeast heights of Albuquerque. She is the daughter of Manual and Guadalupe Armijo and grew up in a house with three sisters. She married Paul Barabe' in 1967 and they had three children- Jennifer in 1968, Melissa in 1970, and thirteen years later Jon-Paul.

Joni worked for over 30 years at the Albuquerque Academy, but her most impressive accomplishment was that of a mother. Joni worked hard to ensure that her children had every opportunity to grow and live to their potential. After the death of her husband in 2017, Joni enjoyed spending time with her extensive family and friends.

Joni was very proud of her nine grandchildren, Jack (27), Maggie (25), Hannah (22), Sophie (21), Campbell (19) Felicia (11), Estevan (8), Joaquin (5), and the newest family member, Cecilia (6 months).

She showed pictures and shared stories about them to anyone who would listen. Her support of her family has created a lifetime of memories. Joni will be remembered by many as loving, caring, strong and dignified. She was selfless in her support of her family and her life lessons will live through them.

Joni is survived by her sisters, Priscilla Palmisano and Charlene Knipfing, and her children with their spouses, Jennifer Barabe'-Snyder (Tom), Melissa Pacheco (Christopher) and Jon-Paul Barabe' (Dominica). Until we meet again-- We love you, Mom.

Rosary will be held Friday, June 21, 2024, at 9:30 a.m., followed by a Mass at 10:00 a.m., at Church of the Incarnation, 2309 Monterrey Road NE - Rio Rancho, NM 87144. A reception will follow services. Please contact the family for details.

The family has requested that any remembrances be made in the form of donations to St Pius High School in Albuquerque, of which Joni was a member of the Class of 1964, or UNM Hospital.
